Lee Hardcastle the raid:  Style: Claymation

Target audience
Older kids or young adults

What genre is the animation and what generic conventions (things you expect to see) can you pull out?
It is a action we know this because the prop of a gun and the explosions and movement of fighting.

What do you notice about the movement of the figures body?

restricted movement  very stiff and shuffley movement because of the lack of legs.
Broken a principle of animation - arcs, deliberately broke the rule because of the affect of enjoyment or humour. followed the arc principle to create the effect of realism.
Shot cat followed the principle of gravity

What do you notice about the movement of the figures face and facial expression?
Sweat - followed the principle of gravity effect is realism this adds tension. Facial expression raised the eyebrow this is attention to detail this is so we get a sense of who they are.

What comments can you make about the use of sound?
well synched sound, the gun fire displays realism. the dialogue is funny the sound effects of the blood pouring, siren adds to the film. the non diagetic soundtrack.

King kong 1933 and creature comforts (2003)

What differences can you see in the two animations?
The quality of the film is better in creature comforts it's much more clear because it is shot in colour
. King kong was used real humans (0.10 - 0.16) where creature comforts as kept it just claymation (0.14 - 0.20). The model of the dolphin is more expressive with facial movement to the gorilla.

What similarities are there in the two animations?
The similarities of the two are that they both use animals as the main character. Both use a backdrop in the clip to add to the animation. Movement in the background on both clips. Both are filmed from the same point of view.

Can you tell if over time there has been a development in the skills and techniques of animation?
Yes there has been a development over time it is clear that there has been 70 years between the two clips. King kong is very hard to see whats happening it is very grainy compared to the creature comforts. Creature comforts looks smoother compared to the jerky movement of king kong.
