Importance of a fan base
It is important for film producers to create a fan base for their movie because the larger the fan base the more people you have to go and watch the movie. If film producers make films with a mainstream narrative or a plot that could be mainstream then this would be seen as a good way of making millions of dollars. A lot of film producers are turning books into films because that has been proven popular in the past with books like Lord of the rings trilogy,Harry Potter, Twilight, Hungergames and this can bring in a lot of money if the books have fans then that will bring them fans to the movies. Also these books are not just one book they are a trilogy or a series this also allows the film to make more money because if you have built a fan base with the first movie they will continue to come back for more. Some things the producers do is hire actors and actresses who have already been in a big franchise for example Robert Pattinson started in Harry Potter and the goblet of fire and was later cast a main role in one of the worlds biggest franchises Twilight this will bring fans from harry potter to twilight. Also with Twilight having the success it did and gaining a huge fan base this a huge advantage for producers that decide to work with him because he will bring a massive fan base with him to any movie he does.

Should the producers be worried about fan reaction
Yes i do think producers should be worried about fan reaction because it is the fans reaction that has the power to make the movie successful or not. It is the fans who will go and watch the movie and also buy the different types of merchandise. Without the money from these different ancillary rights the films may not be able to make the millions of dollars that they put into the films back. Fan reaction can also depend on whether a sequel to the movie is made if the film has not received a good fan reaction then the studios will not take on the sequel.
